Why I moved from Arch to Fedora

Thu Aug 20 2026

For the past year, I've been using Arch Linux as my daily driver.

It taught me a lot about Linux. I learned how system is built, how to troubleshoot problems, manage system and user packages, configure desktop environment from scratch and most importantly, how to feel comfortable reading documentation when got stuck.

But over time, I have realized something.

I don't actually need to spend my time maintaining my operating system.

Every pacman -Syu made me think, "Is everything still going to work?" Most updates went smoothly, but I always had an eye on the system, ensuring it is working as intended and nothing is broken.

My daily workflow was surprisingly simple:

  • A terminal
  • A browser
  • A handful of development tools

That's it.

So, I have decided to move to Fedora.

For me, it strikes the right balance: modern packages, stable release model, great developer experience, and much less time worrying about the OS itslef.

This isn't an "Arch vs Fedora" post.

Arch is an amazing Linux distribution, and I would not have understood Linux nearly as well without it. But I've learned an important lesson -

Choose tools that solve your problems, over the tools that create new hobbies.

Sometimes the best fix isn't making your system more customizable. It is about making it fade into background so that you can focus on building things you want and solving problems that actually need your attention.
